Minister launches forensic book

The CBD clinic was honoured to host a visit by the Victorian Minister for Health, the Hon David Davis MP, on 10 March 2011 to review our facilities and launch a new text book edited by Drs John Gall (Principal of Era Health) and Jason Payne-James.

The text, a book regarding forensic medicine and published by Wiley Blackwell, is titled Current Practice in Forensic Medicine.  It is the first of an anticipated regular volume (every 18 months-2 years) on subjects of current interest in forensic medicine.

This volume contains chapters on how to give expert evidence in court (an area that frightens many doctors away), bioterrorism, child sexual and physical assault, genital photography (a very contentious area in public health particularly in NSW), DNA, photography of injuries, adult sexual assault, common errors made by doctors in interpreting cases of potential child and adult sexual and physical assault, self-inflicted injuries, bite marks and aircraft accident investigations.  The international authorship consists of highly regarded experts in their field and six of them are from Melbourne [Dr Ian Freckelton SC (Victorian Bar), Dr Anne Smith (Victorian Forensic Paediatric Medical Service), Dr Tim Cain (Royal Children’s Hospital), Professor John Clement (University of Melbourne) and Dr Shelley Robertson (Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine)], one from Adelaide (Prof Robert , one from Sydney (Dr Patricia Brennan) and two from Perth (Dr Andrew Robertson and Dr Tim Inglis).
