Telehealth is a way of delivering healthcare to our patients involving the use of information and communications technology.
Tele-health consults, our doctors and general practitioners can provide diagnosis, treatment, and preventive healthcare services.
Telehealth consultations can be delivered in real time using mobile devices such as phones and tablets, through telephone conversations, or through video using Skype.
Also, the use of email or information/images for review outside of a clinical consultation (not delivered in real-time) can be beneficial and is used as additional information for the general practitioners to have a better understanding of the situation and help him/her to achieve a better diagnosis.
The most common mediums to perform a Tele Health Appointment is telephone, email, and video, particularly for patients in rural and remote areas.

A telehealth video consultation is when a patient and a doctor embark on a consultation via video conferencing equipment, in many cases using popular software such as Skype. The GP and patient must be able to see and talk to each other.
The telehealth appointments can be provided by a GP, nurse practitioner, midwife specialist, consultant physician, or psychiatrists.
According to Medicare Australia, “the general privacy requirements for video consultations, relating to confidentiality, patient consent, and security of patient information and medical records, are the same as for face-to-face consultations. Video consultations bring a new dimension to privacy requirements given that they involve the transmission of sound, images, and other data relating to the consultation. Video consultations should be conducted using secure infrastructure or encryption. If the possibility of third-party interception exists, the patient should be told and asked for their consent to proceed.”
